forward and reverse
On occasion with my yamaha g1 there is a delay engaging while going in forward or reverse from a dead stop. Does anyone know what the issue may be.

What do you mean by not engaging? Is the starter/generator belt loose/slipping?

You can hear it wanting to kick in, then all of a sudden it does. Don't know how else to describe it.

I would check and tighten the belt between the starter/generator and the clutch. It sounds like it's slipping and that's probably your pause before it starts.

That belt needs to be fairly tight, also most people rarely replace them so they get old and hard and slip easier.
