Plowman's Performance Kit install help
Had Don rebuild my primary clutch and ordered a performance kit for my G22 limo project while I was at it. Got everything installed and cart drives sluggish. Certainly not the performance I was expecting, so I'm wondering if I have something installed incorrectly. I have don's cell, but not going to try and call him over the weekend unless he comes here and suggests it. Anybody have any things to check?

Did toy put the belt on the right way? What have you done with the govenor?
Did you remove the foam filter in air box and do the air box correctly? I would double check everything. Did it run ok before kit? Have you gps'd it? There might be a slight chance you got the wrong jets...but I doubt that. Did you adjust the carb |

When I say sluggish, there is no hole shot. The governor is tightened all the way in, but that is how I got the cart. No GPS, but it would take some distance to get up to speed right now. Cart ran good before. I know I have to call Don as there is a note that comes with the kit to call once installed, but I would take that as call during business hours. Didn't adjust the carb, other than the idle screw. Was hoping someone that has installed a kit previously could touch on the things don had them do. |

re: Plowman's Performance Kit install help
I also got the same kit & didn't have much luck with it I lost 7 mph on the top end & it does seems to have a little more power to climb hills but not the wow factor I hear everyone talking about. I had to turn my mixture screw out to 2.25 turns to get it to run not the 1.75 that was in the instructions. I triple checked everything & its all pr instructions. I also replaced the fuel lines & fuel pump. some times it will start to bogg on steep hills & if I pull 1/4 choke it will help I have no idea why.

That's what I'm going to do, but the anticipation is killing me. Guess it is as the saying goes, "Good things come to those who wait".

Re: Plowman's Performance Kit install help
Duramax, If you lost 7mph with the performance kit there is clearly some other issue that is going on with your cart or Plowmans possibly sent you something wrong, but that is unlikely. Are you sure you dont have an underlining issue that was just made more evident when Plowmans clutch was installed? Have you talked with Don regarding this? I have installed 2 kits for the g16/g22 and one for the g29 and all have had very good performance with no topend loss. I think maybe something else maybe going on with your cart.

Re: Plowman's Performance Kit install help
I put the stock sheeve & stock spring back in & picked up my 7 mph loss. the hill climbing power was reduced going back stock . don sent me a black spring that is 2x as stiff as me factory one not sure if that was killing my top end. I didn't gain anything on the top end with the air cleaner & jets??? tried to call him 2x about adj the valves but he was helping other people.

Re: Plowman's Performance Kit install help
You wont gain alot if any on top end, but you sure should not lose 7mph. His kits are for more usable power all through the powerband. The jets and air filter are for eliminating the lean condition the stock motor has when running Wide open. If by putting your stock stuff back works, that is telling me your motor is lacking the power to compress the stiffer spring.

Re: Plowman's Performance Kit install help
Yamaha tend to be very picky about mixture. If you mod the airbox at all they usually run slower or have problems unless you jet them to compensate. You have to jet and mod the airbox completely as kit would instruct if you expect it to work right. Make sure you have no leaks in the intake/etc. Valve lash usually does not affect running unless its off a lot. Spring tends to make them rev more at lower speeds but primary will have to work harder to get highest 'gear' and overcome spring at high speed. Plowman really knows his stuff though so unlikely his kit would not work unless you have some other issue or the wrong cart/parts/etc mistake was made.
