Default Yamaha G2-G8? Should I Buy?

There is a Yamaha G2-G8 for sale near me. It is advertised as a "parts cart", but the guy says it is just missing some "Stupid Things". He said the engine is still there, but he doesn't know if it runs or not. It looks a little rough around the edges. The guy is asking $400. Opinions?

Is it a G2 or a G8...either cart is a great cart.

Check the frame around the mid-section,the cross member for the swing-arm,and the side rails at that point tend to rot.$400 isn't a bad deal if its mostly complete, even not running.Decent rollers are getting scarce. We've got a couple parts G2 and G9s' here too if you are looking for one.

Seller doesn't say. I'm just going on what I've learned on BGW, that it's either a G2 or G8

The G2 and G9 are very similar,G2 has aluminum trim, and white steering column and wheel. The G9 has black rubber trim, black column and wheel. The G8 is all by itself, fiberglass body, the rear kind of resembles a Club-Car DS.They use a Yamaha single, very similar to a clone in appearance(I think 257cc?).They run good, and are dependable.

G8's have a tell-tail, basic 3 link rear suspension. Here is one in its modified state!!

G2's have a rev control that seems to get in the way from time to time.

G2 & G9 are nearly identical, but quite different from G8 (but motor is same 285cc one-cylinder air cooled). G8 has sweet "drag bars" that i always wanted to turn into a drag race cart. Not many body related add-ons available for G8 (4 passenger seat kits, ect). Before you consider buying, you should look at it, and find out how much is really missing, AND what model it really is.... If it looks like my pic, its a G2 or G9, NOT a G8. Ignore paint color, they all came with a "ivory" body color from the factory. Although good examples dont appear that often, $400 is kinda high for a non-running "parts only" machine around here. (maybe im wrong on pricing, i got mine for a good deal with bad wiring, but fixing most any yamaha is pretty easy when you know what to look for in wiring, and having spare parts don't hurt either).

In this area,a fairly complete parts-cart goes from $300-$800 depending on yr./model and condition overall.

Based on what I've learned and looking at the picture from the ad, it is a G2
