Question about clutches.
I have a question about my clutches. My g2 has a hard time pulling the slightest hill and I always assumed it was because my primary clutch has a lot of up and down play in it and I assumed it was wore out. I looked at my secondary today and noticed it looked very worn, I don't have the money to replace both of them so I was wondering which one would make more sense to replace first to give me a little more pulling power? I noticed to other day while driving on a straight away the clutch was slipping bad, when I gave it gas I could hear the engine rev up but the cart wouldn't go any faster.

Re: Question about clutches.
When did you replace your belt last?
Here is what I would do: 1.) Disassemble and clean primary clutch, take pics and post 2.) Disassemble and clean secondary clutch, take pics and post 3.) Remove and inspect belt, take pics and post Without putting eyeballs on your setup, I'd be taking a wild guess. Wild guesses can be very expensive and frustrating. Your clutches might be ok. A dirty clutch won't work like it's supposed to, and clutches that haven't been properly maintained won't work very efficiently. Before you buy, make sure you have a good look at what you are dealing with. |

Re: Question about clutches.
I saw the lack of buttons, and the rounded edges on the helix. That's why I suggest removing both and getting a good look. If the secondary is that bad, wonder what the belt and primary look like?

Re: Question about clutches.
I inherited this cart about a month ago from my uncle when he passed away so I don't know much about the history on it. I do remember him saying he put a new belt on it about a year ago. I will try to take the clutches off tomorrow.

Re: Question about clutches.
I'm with Jeff on this! The secondary sheave and heilix are both well shot beyond use. Need to replace both of those! New helix may come with new shoes. I'd get a new umax secondary spring as well. Don't forget the improved spacer also!!
Since secondary is that bad, you really need to take a look under the primary clutch cover, looking for worn or loose weights ands shafts!! |

Re: Question about clutches.
I've had the cover off the primary and everything in it is loose. I can wiggle it a lot. Would a rebuild kit fix that?

Re: Question about clutches.
Yes it is rebuildable, but you need to figure out how much thickness is left on the sheave, (belt surface). They wear out after a period of time and start showing holes in the surface where the belt rides. Might be more affordable to get a new clutch sheave with weights, ready to slide on your fixed (steel) sheave.
You should call Plowmans or CPP, and have them explain what to look for. They can talk you through, what to look for. |

Re: Question about clutches.
Buy the new-style spring seat and sliding sheave. It doesnt have the white buttons that break off, and will last much longer. Get the umax spring, and spacer. Better do it pretty soon before the input shaft is screwed too (more expensive than all the other parts added together)...
