These guys are correct. A solid state conversion is the best option. However, if you'd like to replace it with components that will work, order OEM solenoids instead of the aftermarket junk off of Amazon. Part number 8016 is the OEM solenoid that you need for the 5-solenoid car.

David, did club car ever make the thicker resistor coils for the 3.5HP motors on the 5 Solenoid system like they did for the VGlide #4 & #5 coils (1014654 & 1014655)?

They may have. I have never heard of it if they did. I got into the golf car industry in 2001 and never did much with these older cars besides repair them and send them back out the door.
