Bigger rims wearing down battery
I have a stock 36 volt 99 ez go txt....will 12 inch rims with 23 inch tires give me less battery time and will it make it slower as far as torque and speed goes?

Re: Bigger rims wearing down battery
23 inch tires will increase the final drive ratio by about 30%.
Expect 30% less torque & shorter run times as the motor is in heavy draw mode constantly. |

Re: Bigger rims wearing down battery
not trying to hijack, but curious if the same result would happen if you keep the stock 8 inch rims and just add bigger tires?

Re: Bigger rims wearing down battery
The reason im asking, is because i put bigger rims and tires on my truck and the gas milage went to crap so i was wanderin would it do the same to a golf cart....i want to have the most battery life as possible because im going to be hunting on my cart an riding around alot but i also wanted to lift it an put bigger more aggresive tires also
i guess you've got to pick one of the two lol |

Quote:
With taller tires, you get more speed, but less torque. To regain lost torque, you upgrade to higher amp controller & solenoid, bigger cables and heavy duty F/R switch, which reduces run-time. To regain lost run-time, you upgrade to 48V system and use 8 x 6V batteries instead of 6 x 8V batteries, which also gives you more speed and torque. The last one is somewhat akin to installing a more fuel efficient engine and a bigger gas tank in your truck. |

Re: Bigger rims wearing down battery
I'll add that the tire is the last gear in the final drive system.
A check of the circumference of a circle reveals that a 23" tire covers about 30% more ground than a stock 18" tire per revolution. Each revolution of the axle must make the cart move 30% further with the bigger tire. Basically you need 30% more power (torque) or amperage to make the same revolution. |

Re: Bigger rims wearing down battery
I have the same issue. I think the easiest fix is changing the rear gear ratio to get me back closer to stock. Just ordered 14.76:1 gears to replace my stock 12.44:1 gears. It doesn't get me exactly back to stock final gearing, but close enough.
