Default Battery Question

I got a set of slightly used batteries several months ago. They were overrilled when I got them and I have been dealing with that. They test ok on my specific gravity measurements. They charge up to 51 volts after 12 hrs at rest (after charging). However, the liquid levels have never gone down. They also appear to fail a load test. The drop to 38 volts under load and remain there pretty much constantly. Once they sit they come back up to 50 volts. What is the deal here?

They are no good, that's the deal. Young age & good static voltage doesnt make a good battery, ability to do work does.

Thanks CG. Why does the liquid never go down on many cycles of charging? I am curious about that.

Probably because the damage in the batteries prevents the voltage from reaching "gassing voltage", where the fluid is consumed.

Makes sense. They have never lost a drop aside from spilling over due to bumps.

Are Centennial GC8VP a good battery? They are 165 AH rated and not 170AH. Is that a huge difference?

Never used them, dont know. One thing I do know is investing in higher AH is worthwhile.

Just load tested each battery. All of them only drop from around 8.35 to 7.5 volts under load. Except one, ot goes from 8 to 1.3 volts. I think I found my problem maker. ..
