Default EZGO EH35C engine

This engine is in my neighbors WorkHorse, it runs fine until you stop and then it wants to run backwards or "diesel". He thought it had carbon buildup on the head and valves so we squirted a little ATF in the carb while it was running to break it up but it still does it, I thought it may be the wrong spark plugs, he has Champion N14YC in it now but it calls for Champion N11YC, anyone else think this might cause the problem?

The flapper in the carb isn't closing all the way. The thottle needs to fully closed when the acc pedal switch opens and cuts power to the motor. If that doesn't do it, valve adjustment. Mine did the same thing. There an adjuster on the carb.

I would install correct plugs. That shouldn't have anything to do with afterburn...If the plugs were too hot they would burn the pistons.

Good points here! As you can tell, there could be a number if issues causing this. Also look at the screw on your carb, it may be screwed in too far, not allowing the butterfly to properly close...
