1996 Six passenger, where would u start?
Hoping to get the group's consensus here.
I'm not quite new to carts, have a slightly modified '96 club car been runnin for a few years. Just bought a 1996 Six Passenger EZGO, appears to be mostly stock except for rear flip flop seat. (My brother found it for me in Michigan for a great deal, I haven't seen it yet). It's going to be a family runaround cart on a small resort island (Kelley's Island) in Lake Erie. Generally 2-4 adults and 2 small kids. All paved roads, almost no hills and no off-road use. In addition to adding standard street-gear like lights, windshield, belts, and some appearance upgrades, I'd like to speed it up enough to get along well in traffic, up to maybe 25mph, but don't need anything radical. Am also thinking I'd like bigger tires, but that depends on what you guys think this will do to speed and ride comfort. I'm hoping someone has dealt with this type of issue, or simply the combined wisdom of the group can shed a light on what would be the best starting point. New gearing? 5" lift and bigger wheels/tires (thinking Jakes spindle kit for wider stance)? 28 degree clutch and/or shorter belt? Tighter springs? If this was yours, where would you start? |

If it were mine, but it isn't I would stay on the path you are thinking, maybe the rest of the guys can add some additional thought to this.

Thanks Mark?, but do you mean I should go with all the options:
"New gearing? 5" lift and bigger wheels/tires (thinking Jakes spindle kit for wider stance)? 28 degree clutch and/or shorter belt? Tighter springs?" Or start with new gears, see how it runs, then add lift and tires, see how it runs, etc....? Matt |

i would get the lift and tires you want then do some clutch work. then last gears if you need them.

Man, those look pretty sweet!
Can you give me a little detail, like what size/make on the lifts, size tires and did you need to do any torque/speed mods to keep them driveable? |

I have 27" tires and I think that it rides better with bigger tires, plus you get more speed from oversize tires. I haven't checked yet yet but I know I'm getting over 20mph. I have the 28 degree clutch also, and it has all the power I need. Sounds like we're on the same type of terrain.
Good Luck, have fun!! |

adding bigger tires will speed the cart up, but you will loose a little low speed torque, but that can be compensate to a certain extent by adding a 28 degree clutch and a HD shorter belt.
If it were mine, I would lift it 23" tires 12/14 inch wheels. Some sort of cool different paint job, and a top from MMT carts. Those look way sleeker and better than the factory top. |

Re: 1996 Six passenger, where would u start?
Thanks Guys,
It looks like I'll start with a 5" lift and 22" tires (couldn't find many DOT approved 23"ers), then the clutch/belt combo and see how she rolls. On the lift, because of the extra weight of the stretch, I'm thinking the drop axle is the way to go and avoid the spindle type???? Also, I read a post that said you need to be careful with raising the limos due to them getting tippy, anyone know if this is true? Matt |

With this axle & 2" blocks on back you can go with 10x24" tires, for a total of a 6.5" lift..
