What Is A Reed Valve
I think that is what you call the thing under the pipe that the carb attaches to on 1986 2 cycle.
I'm doing complete rebuild do I need to replace this or just clean it up looks a little burnt................ |

I would check with boysen reeds and see if they have some for your motor. Since they are fiber if they brake they will not damage your engine and will probably help with throttle response. They do wear out or get weak.

You can probably get OEM reeds also. The reeds are not required to make a 2 cycle run, they do enhance the low end performance tremendously. I wouldn't try to run a golf cart 2 stroke without them. They work like a check valve, once the fuel passes that point it will enter the cylinder and be burn't. They would prevent backfire through the carb too.
