Workhorse Hard Starting without choke
I have a 99 workhorse with a freshly rebuilt 350. It won't start easy unless I pull the choke out for just a second even when it's hot. If I don't pull the choke it cranks a lot sometimes before it fires. I have cleaned the carb and the fuel pump. It runs fine once it starts, just won't start easy w/out choking.

Re: Workhorse Hard Starting without choke
check all your linkages to see if they are binding. also make sure the carb closes all the way when you shut it off. I have seen customer adj their linkages to so called make the cart run faster and create all types of problems.

Re: Workhorse Hard Starting without choke
I hope the folks here have some ideas on this one because my 98 workhorse also likes the choke if it sits more than a few minutes.......

Re: Workhorse Hard Starting without choke
Next time try starting it without the choke, spray some starting fluid around the carb/manifold area,
if it starts, you have an air leak in the area. Also, Crank for a bit and then pull the plug. Let us know if it is either wet or dry. I would check the air box assy. for air leaks, then check the float, I have had to adjust them off level a little bit before to get the fuel level a little higher in the bowl. You cleaned the carb, did you soak it in carb cleaner or just blow it out? Really need to give it a couple hour soak in something like the "Gunk" brand carb cleaner. Comes in a gallon can and has parts basket in it. You guys keep us posted. |

Re: Workhorse Hard Starting without choke
Adjusted valves and got rid of some tapping, ticking noise but still starts the same. Still need just a touch of choke to fire it quick. All the carb gaskets are new and tight so I don't think I should have any leaks. Thanks
