Default 1986 Club Car Gas Intermit/No Spark

Hello, I have a 1986 Club Car gas motor. It has an intermit/no spark concern that I have been trying to diagnose. I have done all of the easy obvious checks (plug, wire, connections, grounds, and kill circuit) with no luck so far. Just received my service manual and going through the ohm checks on the ignition circuit. The exciting coil ohm checks OK, pulsing coil ohm checks OK. However the service manual does not list what the pulsing coil output should be while cranking. It is currently showing .17 V AC while cranking. Does anybody know what that AC voltage output should be when cranking for this 1986 CC.

Also, the service manual does not show what the ohms reading should be for the ignition coil/CDI. Wondering if anyone could help with this as well.

Thank you very much,
Fred

If you take the back hatch cover off. You will see a group of wires coming from the engine flywheel. disconnect the black ground wire and check for spark then. I had this issue with a gas CC that had no spark at all. I disconnected that wire, then I had full spark with no problems after. Hope this helps

Tonka,

Thank you for this info. Just let me clarify, There is a 3 terminal connector coming from the back side of the motor that plugs into the ignition coil (Red & brown for the exciting coil and white for the pulsing coil) and then there is a single black wire that comes from the ignition coil that plugs into the kill circuit. I did unplug that wire and tested and still no spark.

Could be an RPM relay then... They are pricey... Hopefully someone here with more Club Car experience will chime in

Those ignition coils aren't made anymore. Very hard to find. I'd try eBay or your local craigslist for parts carts. The ignition coil for your '86 was used from 1984-1989. I've heard you can use a coil from a 1990-1991 cart (which has the same motor), but I have yet to hear a concrete confirmation that's possible.

Springbok, Thank you for the information. Do you or anyone else know how to make the 1990-1991 ignition coil work on my 1986 cart?

Also do you happen to know if there is a ohm's test on my 1986 ignition coil and if so what is the spec. The service manual has you test everything before the coil but nothing for the coil.

"1990-91 coil, as long as it has an internal rev limiter, will work on any Club Car KF82 motor."

I tried a 90-91 coil and still had no fire. But, the coil had no resistance between the end of the plug wire and either of the 2 wires (secondary resistance).

I believe my 90-91 coil does not have an internal rpm limiter. I believe it would work with this limiter. http://www.vintagegolfcartparts.com/...b_car_ignition

Is the 90 - 91 coil with an internal limiter discontinued? Would an ezgo or yamaha coil with an internal limiter work?

Ben was the 90-91 coil you tried a used coil or a new one?
