Default 1997 G 16 won't pull hills

Hi Everyone!!
I'm a newbe to the forum and not very mechanically inclined but here's my question: My cart struggles going up a long steep hill on our golf course but flies on level ground. I was wondering if I need to install a power kit with the power spring and shaft spacer? The clutch belt is only 6 months old. Will the power kit help?? Thanks MM

I would also do a compression check on the engine too. 97 is getting up there (I have a 94!) and might be time for a general refresher to get back the power.....

Yep...order the power kit and torque spring. Its a pretty easy install. Mine will climb straight up!

Run the cart in neutral and see how quick the rear clutch opens up. Rear circlip for rear clutch may be broke. The clip is located between the rear housing and helix.http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-y...tructions.html

Guys, I'm very new here, but shouldn't he check clutch sheaves for windows, belt condition, and all other stock parts, before he spends money on performance enhancements he may not need?

Mike Mac, that's a good point. Take a look at the "buttons"/ ramp shoes for wear before you order the power kit. If they need repacement, that's the time to do it. Mine wouldn't have had to be replaced yet, but they are cheap so I just did it anyway.

I don't think this member needs to order the clutch spring kit.... not everyone who logs on here is gonna be a mechanic
I think sometimes people come here to find a second opinion... then they can go see their mechanic or golf cart shop tech with a better understanding of what their cart needs.

The spring/spacer only power kit is the best and least expensive mod you'll ever come across on a Yamaha golf cart. We have instructions here on how to install this or you can take it to your local shop.
