Picked up a DS with a D & D motor
I finally picked up a 2001 Club Car DS yesterday. Turns out it already has a 2005 D & D motor in it. It's a 170-003-0007. D & D's web site says it has 10.1 peak HP, replaces D377, speed up to 22mph and a 10% torque reduction.
Can any of you guys help me to figure out what can be done to this motor to get back some more torque or some more power. It runs good but it's only at about 19-20mph and I'd really like it to be quicker off the line. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

I have no idea. I don't even know what that looks like.

Follow your motor wires and you'll go right to it. Post a picture if you can.

Re: Picked up a DS with a D & D motor
You need a bigger control. Here's why
The speed controller is the gate valve for the battery amperage (power) flow to the motor. When the motor works it consumes amperage. So more amperage (through a bigger control) allows the motor to make more power or torque. A good economical choice is GE500 amp and 200a solenoid.... like our pkg #404 |

Hey Scotty, with the motor I have listed above, what do you think I'll gain by making these changes? Also should I upgrade to 4ga wires as well?

Re: Picked up a DS with a D & D motor
You will get a LOT more torque with the 500 amp controller, top speed probably won't increase.
Go with 4g or 2g wires for sure. |

Re: Picked up a DS with a D & D motor
Ok great. Thanks for the tips guys.
Oh yeah, what about some tips for a voltage reducer and fuse block? The guy I bought it from wired all the lights directly to one battery. I'm pretty sure that's no good. I'd also like to add a Bluetooth radio, LED undercarriage lights and maybe LED headlights. |
