Default Re: Front Brakes, 92 marathon?

I took a walk and found some axles to compare spindles and bushings, bolts, etc. No elevator work tomorrow so I will be working on my cart all day. Here are some pictures of what I dug up. A marathon axle with spindles, a star axle with spindles and my 94-2000 txt axle with one spindle. The star should be the same as a fairplay or ezgo 4 bolt with the steering box located on the axle. The 4 bolt types such as the late model TXT use a drag link like the marathon. If they fit my 94-2000 axle then thats the kit I myself will buy and mod to fit.

Ok here we go. The marathon and the 94- 2000 txt are compatible, call them the pre-metric years. I'm 100% positive you can swap spindles. The bushing and bolt are different but the O.D on the bushing is the same. The Marathon and TXT bolts and bushings is on the inch scale. The fairplay Star and 2001- TXT 4 bolts have a metric bolt and bushing it's close but defiantly a smaller OD. I did not go as far as taking the bronze bushings out of the spindles. I will measure some new ones for both the 4 bolt and the 94 txt to see if the OD is the same or not. Tomorrow.... But it looks like if you want disk brakes on your marathon axle then the answer is yes with some mods to the tie rod locations on 94-2000 txt kit. Its' cool! Forged Steel welds nice

What options are there for disc brake upgrades? Who all carries them and what is the best deal?

This is it! The only one I know of so far. The steering arms on the spindles on one or both may have to be cut, added too and rewelded on for the correct Marathon steering. The spindle ends are upside down for one. But eveything else fit onto the Marathon front axle. How brave are you? Use the right welder! The brake cyl will also have to be adapted to fit the Marathon. I think I would call this a custom build and not so much a kit.. The steering is so different it might not be worth doing it this way. http://www.buggiesunlimited.com/prod...FQUHnQodOwYApg .

The metric spindles on the 2001- 4 bolt are closer to the marathon steering. It may be better to mod a metric front end.... Hmmn? It would be less risky cutting to do. If I'm going to spend 400 bucks on disk brakes with new spindles I want it as right as rain.

This Thread has made me think about this earlier than I would have otherwise. Here are two 4 bolt metric take offs from carts that were lifted. I have a third that I am going to build to fit my marathon project. I may not have to modify the expensive spindles at all. Know anyone that wants a metric front axle to mod so they can have disk brakes on their marathon? Cheers!
