Factory calls for SAE 30 which for the record is motor oil....

If you want to use gear oil that is your choice just so long as you don't mind being the Rebel...

Myself I'd go with 80 weight Synthetic gear oil...

No you want to drain the old oil out and put in new oil. You can either put 10w-30 or gear oil its up to you. I used 80-90 gear oil Royal purple full synthetic. Mobile 1 is also good.
