![]() I have a 91 club car ds the motor is disasembled right now and i noticed on the camshaft where the gear is rivited to the cam shaft it is missing the metal plate that is shown in the pictures i see of new cam shaft online? is this plate needed seems like it must act as a stifferener? i know some of the lawnmower kawasaki engines the goverenor is in that location? just wondering the purpose of the metal plate on the club car motors was since they are goverened in the rear end? also the cam gear has some play liek the rivits arnt pulled in tight? i dont know if they were tight when it once had the metal plate and it was removed and now has slop? is there away to smash these rivits tighter so the cam gear stays tight to the cam shaft or is some side to side play normal? (about 1/8")

![]() I would think you would need the plate, they should be easy to locate because there are a lot of dead cam gears out there. I have heard of people replacing the rivets with grade 8 nuts & bolts & permanent Loctite on the threads.

![]() i had thought about it but the rivits are about the size of a #10 bolt.

![]() Sometimes nylon gears will get brittle, (not sure about club car) I would be careful if you decide to press or hammer those rivets tight. Might be better go go with bolt/nut & loctite.
That first picture shows some chewed up areas on those gears, did you have some chips floating around? Make sure you get them all out. |

I didn't say size 8 I said grade 8, make sure to use a guality nut and bolt no matter what size they are if you go that route. Good Luck |

![]() i ended up using 2" #8-32 sockethead cap screws & a couple washers. (i chose the 2" length because it gave me almost full size unthreaded rod 1 1/2" through the cam and gear and just enough thread to lock it down with a nylock.) ran a nylock all the way down to nip it up tight then cut the excess of with a cut off wheel. used red loctite on the threads. seems to be holding fine.
