Thanx guys. I will see if it helps him. I will head down Saturday afternoon. One of my scouts is having his eagle rank award ceremony on Saturday morning. Can't miss that one.

Well, as I suspected tried cart again today and nothing. So I'm not sure if tightening nut was a coincidence or what.

Is it possible that removing the nut, cleaning the contacting surfaces and adding a little di-electric grease would help?

it sure wouldn't hurt.....or it could be that the F&R is just wore out and needs to be replaced.

If a stud gets too hot it sinks into the plastic housing shrinking away from the opposite rotary contact. This is usually whats happening with an intermittent or bad F&R switch

Yes, and the other part, inspect the contact pad / bus bars for signs of arc'ing / melting.

It's possible you just fudged it enough to get it to make contact, but it's arcing away a little metal at a time.

some additional info: the FNR was replaced about a year ago, so shouldn't be "worn out." I've looked all around it and can't find anything that looks wrong.
