Default 1984 Ezgo 2pg restomod

I bought a baby blue with red emblems and rim inserts 1984 Ezgo 2pg golf cart from a buddy this past spring, it was backfiring when I got it, I adjusted the throttle cable and got it to stop backfiring. The cart quit running about a month later and I decided to redo the cart starting with paint. I knew if I just rebuilt the motor I would not repaint the cart. Paint is finally done and looks pretty good for spray paint.

With the cart being baby blue I didn't know what color to repaint it but then I remembered the best looking baby blue paint scheme there has ever been. The gulf oil racing paint scheme used on the GT40 and mirage race cars back in the late '60s. My other hobby is road racing with NASA in the American Iron class so a road racing paint scheme only made sense to me.

Upon teardown of the engine it was very tired most of the top ring was worn through and the bottom ring was almost all gone. The piston skirt and the cylinder wall were well aquainted. I did a complete rebuild with new crank, bearings, piston, and cylinder.

The new motor ran good but almost instantly blew out the front crank seal I will use bearing mount when the new seal arrives. Upon troubleshooting the new engine it made 130 PSI on the compression check.

I tried posting pics to this before but my phone deleted the text I had written so I'll post this and edit it to add pics. Now upon submitting photos I have to be a member for 7 days. So see you in a week.

Thanks and I look forward to posting here,

Anthony

Welcome to BGW ANTHONY When the new seals arrive use BLUE or RED loctite on the outer edge of the seal install then with a center punch or a small chisel stake the outer edge of the case. Problem solved.

Thank you Lou,

I've got a bottle of loctite bearing retainer sitting on the floor of the cart waiting for the new seal to arrive!

To stake the seal I need to center punch the case next to the seal to cause the case to help hold the seal in place correct?

Got the roof reinstalled. So the rear uprights had been bent at some point so I straightened them a little too much, ended up I had to pry them over to get the top bolt holes to line up with the roof. 2 hours later the roof was bolted back on.

Not that anyone cares but the windshield is on. Cart looks great. I'll post pics when the 7 day restriction on posting links is up.

Will do Lou!! Might be a challenge with the engine still in the cart!

Stock wheels but they work well with the gulf paint scheme. Co worker has since painted his rims red with black turbine inserts.
