Default Throwing sparks under heavy load? (87 Marathon)

I was using my cart to pull a heavy log (tree actually) and my wife commented that it was throwing sparks from underneath.

Not sure if it was from the motor or the resistor coils. It stopped after we disconnected the tree and ran it with just a person.

Is this normal under heavy load? Will it cause pitting on the drive shaft (like with a brushed dc motor?)

Thanks.

Check for bad cables, loose connections. And look at the resister coils, and see if any of then are broken

I would say resistor coils ! I had a Cushman that did the same thing with a heavy load and it was bad body mounts that caused coils to touch one of the bolts around area. Look for a burn or melted area. Have someone stand on back and take notice to resistor area.

I'll check it out. Hoping it's just a connection arcing and not the motor. Thanks folks!

This activity with the old golf cart will be the end of it - you could not find anything harder to do to it and it will shorten it's useful life.

I know I know. It was just that once. It's just going to be for hauling people now, or maybe a small trailer with a couple of bags of concrete and a shovel at the most.
