Will RXV Rear Axle Bearing Replacment Fix Whine?
Has anyone had luck at fixing whine by replacing axle bearings?
I am thinking about replacing bearings and while I'm at it replace axles because splines are severely worn. RXV axles are pricey ($300 each) and I would hate to spend the money and the whine be worse. Any advice? |

Won't make it worse, won't likely make it better either. The noise is usually the input shaft & input shaft bearings.

That makes sense. I guess the best way to fix the whine and worn axles would be replace the whole rear end ($1100).

That is only guaranteed fix.
Rxv axle does not seem to be affected by the whining just annoying. |

Depends on the Whine..... I find that most RXV's have a Whine from the motor and simply never goes away

No guarantee it will just be bearing.
sometimes gears whine. (Ford pinion whine anyone?) |

Mine whines some. I can still carry on a conversation. yesterday was the first time I noticed it really pissing dogs off. Every dog I passed would go berzerk.

I have seen the bearings be really bad, to the point it was affecting the position of the input shaft. In that situation, it will be affecting the gears.

The whine my RXV has is not bad but it does bug me. I'm tempted to go ahead and replace the bearings and axles and live with the whine.
