Default Re: Replaced Bearings Still Squeaking

Well I got out there to work on it this morning. Tightened up the lug nuts (they were only hand tight go figure), took it for a spin..still squeaked. So took the wheel back off, pulled the C pin and was able to unscrew the hub nut WITH MY FINGERS. Makes you wonder how some of these repair techs even got their certifications. So I put the wrench to it until I couldn't possibly turn it anymore, cleaned everything up with brake cleaner, then lubed everything with WD-40 white lithium both sides. Put everything back on, tighten lug nuts properly. The best part was the test drive. Just drove it a mile through my subdivision and NO MORE SQUEAK! Thanks everybody for your help. I need to start doing everything myself from now on. If you want it done right, you've gotta do it yourself apparently.

Get or borrow a torque wrench. The hub nut needs to be really tight, to prevent stripping during hard braking.

Glad you found out the problem.

The 8 dollar an hour tech comes through again. When will shops learn they need to hire individuals that at least have some knowledge.

I see crap like that every day.

I was just told by someone else that it's not supposed to be too tight. I quote: "Castle nuts aren't made to be extremely tight, just made not to back off by sliding the pin in."
Is that true or a load of crap? I think I will trust you guys. I will get a torque wrench and tighten it up even more

The manual in the stickies tells the proper torque. Don't back off for the cotter pin.
