Things I've never said to my wife for $400, Alex.

I've alway used baking soda mixed in water, then just hose off or using a container, just dumped water over the battery terminal's (and thus batteries) in the lawn. My grass has never shown any ill effects.

My suggestion to you would be take the cart to your lawn's most remote place, clean a few terminals, rise with a bucket of clean water and observe how your lawn reacts to it.

I think as most of you know, my job is fixing golf cars.
I hose off batteries every day, and in my experience, I don't get a better job by using baking soda, or anything for that matter. I don't need to see something foam up to know it working. Ive done thousands of golf cars and never an issue. I also don't run the risk of getting any baking soda in the cap vent hole, or if a cap was not on correctly, nothing worse than ruining a set of batteries.
Straight water works for me, simple, and a lot cleaner operation.

Without foaming, how do you know when you're done cleaning? 5 minutes? 5 hours? 5 days?

.

Like most things there are many ways to achieve a similar end result. I think the key difference is 'thousands of carts serviced for a living'.
These guys here are making a Saturday project out of cleaning of the cart, let em have a little foam and fun

I just keep my batteries clean and dried off from the beginning. 2 years on this set and no corrosion yet.

Very similar to the folks that use soap when they take a shower. What a waste when they could just rinse.
