Default Batteries not charging 100%

Hey Guys. I just bought a 07 CC Precedent. I bought a digital battery gauge for it and tested it last night which read 38.5v. I got my multimeter out and checked the batteries and they read 38.5v. So I charged the batteries overnight and used the multimeter again this morning. Still 38.5v. This is a 48v system with 4 new 12v batteries. Any idea why it isn't charging 100%? Would it be the batteries or maybe the charger? The place I bought the cart from just gave me a random charger he had on his shelf. He sells a lot of CCs. Could the charger be a 36v? This is my first cart so I don't have a ton of experience. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Greg

It sounds to me the batteries are not installed correctly. Please post a pic of the pack so we can see all of the battery cable connections.

That does make sense Scotty. If one of the batteries was connected wrong and not in series the voltage would be around 38v fully charged. I will check tonight when I get home. Thanks for the help.

How is the cart driving? Your first post about a week ago stated that you just purchased and the cart ran great at 15 MPH... If nothing else has changed other than you installed a voltage meter AND the cart still runs great then you might have installed the voltage meter incorrectly... If your pack is at 38 volts that cart will be lucky if it surges or bucks...

He said he used a multimeter to confirm th new volt gauge reading...beyond the obvious of having a cable hooked up wrong or having one battery turned the wrong way...I would look at the tag on the back of the charger to see what voltage it is designed for.

Test each battery, see if one or more is low. Test the pack voltage while charging. See what the pack voltage is reading at the end of the charge cycle before the charger cuts off. That will determine if it's a battery problem or a charger problem. It should go to around 60-65 volts before shutting off.

The cart drives great. I didn't even install the volt meter, just hooked it up to see how bright it was going to be. Just noticed the lower voltage at that time. I'm guessing it can be one of these things.

-One of the batteries is not functioning properly.
-One of the batteries is in parallel.
-The charger is for 36v.
-I'm an idiot and putting my multimeter on the wrong terminals. (I wouldn't be surprised.)

So tonight I will check all of the above.

-The charger is for 36v. Doubtful as you would have known by now and the plug is a different style than a 48v
-I'm an idiot and putting my multimeter on the wrong terminals. (I wouldn't be surprised.) Just be sure you are on the main + terminal which goes to the solenoid and then the main - which goes back to the OBC/Controller.

So tonight I will check all of the above.

Or - we've all seen this one - there are 6/6v battteries in your 48 volt cart.
