To replace the springs is not a big job but the shocks have to be detached to do it. Might as well take the coilovers off while you are at it. The dual rate rear springs should be just right for your situation.

Would it be horrible to leave the coilovers on?

That is a matter of opinion only you can decide after all is said and done. Your "seat of the pants" will tell you if it is a good idea or not. I suspect it is not.

Thinking about reinstalling old shocks with new bushing with HD springs. Thoughts? Will it make a difference in the ride? With the minimum clearance I have I am halfway thinking that leaving the coilovers on might be a good idea.

Well I scored some used 3 leaf springs from the dealer today for a good price. Going to install tonight!

I can’t believe how easy it was to replace the rear leaf springs on my 02 EZGO txt. It was almost like I was doing it wrong it was so easy.
