1992 EzGo rear clutch
So, after doing some testing on my new to me free golf cart, i wanted to test the belt and clutches and see where my problem may be. I had some up hill power loss (motor getting quiet and slowing down (at the moment of this post it is not fixed)). I removed the seat and went to test the golf cart on the hill by the pond. started up the hill until the back tires started the climb. I looked at the belt the clutch at the engine seemed tight and working. The rear one on the axle well... the inside part of the clutch was spinning with the belt, the out side was not all the time, it would start to catch and the cart would push forward then would stop.
I have been trying to do some research but came up inconclusive. Is this a bad clutch? Is it the spring problem that people replace with ones for higher torque (like lifted carts and stuff)? The side with the yellow mark is the one that does not spin trying to climb hills. Attachment 173563 |

How do you remove the drive clutch on the rear of the cart? Is there a bolt that needs to be removed then pulled off?

By the sounds of it to me the spring may be broken. Here is a video of a clutch that is similar to yours but just ignore the "clocking" part he's talking about. It will show you how to make a rod out of all thread and get the clutch apart safely without it flying apart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JED-oeXc-U |

Re: 1992 EzGo rear clutch
Thanks for the reply. I did try a brief search last night about the "clocking". seems there should be something posted about where to place the springs for better torque and stuff. I came up short on trying to fin what combinations worked or even where to place the spring for the original setting.

There shouldn't be a way to clock on your clutch if it's like mine. The spring just sits in there. Look at this: https://www.golfcartking.com/ezgo-dr...nd-up-4-cycle/ I'd take it apart obviously first to make sure your spring is in fact broken. |

If you have done this before, what is the best tool to compress the springs? just wondering what you used.

Re: 1992 EzGo rear clutch
Check out the video I posted in a earlier post. I made a tool close to what he has, a piece of all thread, couple nuts and washers and I made the channel looking piece that squeezes it together but leaves space to get the snap ring out.
