2012 EZ Go RXV 48v Wont Charge
Hello. I have a 2012 EZGO RXV 48v. Batteries are Trojan 12 volt and are 2016s. A week or so ago, I noticed my OEM charger wasn't working (would blink red a few times then nothing). I bought a new DPI charger thinking the OEM charger was bad (after reading reviews about the lousy quality of those things); however, the new DPI charger won't charge either. I plug it in, it hums a bit but the amp meter never moves) then after a minute or 2 the fully charged light comes on solid like its showing fully charged when its not, its about 3/4 charged. I charged it manually to see what would happen, but DPI still won't engage and charge. Any thoughts? Thanks

Re: 2012 EZ Go RXV 48v Wont Charge
Cable could have failed despite looking connected, one battery might be bad, or voltage is too low (below ~45V) where charger refuses to attempt a charge.
We don't use DPIs so experience is limited, but if they are anything like Pro Charging Systems Eagle Performance series, they should charge low voltage packs as well as trickle/maintenance charge when full, and will either flash a code or assume it's full far too soon if there is one cable that is failing (will appear connected but zero continuity between the ends, and if you measure pack volts, you get a very odd number far below where it should be.) If you have a multi meter handy, measure the main positive and negative and your volts should be somewhere between 46 to 50 depending on charge level. If you get an odd reading like 24 or 16 or such, but all individual batteries show 12.4 or other wise normal voltage, a cable has likely failed. if one of your batteries (and quite often it's the hard to reach rear battery) shows like 9 or less that's a bad battery. |
