Early 80's Battery Drain
Hey everyone,
New to forum, appears to be a good community here.. I have a battery draining when cart is running. Slow rpm's registers like 6-8 volts, high rpm's read around 10 volts... regardless when running the battery is draining.. Battery is brand new, I was told it's my voltage regulator. Questions - what year is my cart? All I can make out on the motor plate is; Robin Engine 25-2PG. Disp. 244cc NO - 07259 Made in Japan Would you agree it's a faulty voltage regulator? Where do I buy this part? Thanks in advanced. Bob |

Re: Early 80's Battery Drain
The part before the 07259 is what you need to determine the year of the engine.
Show us the rest of the cart, and engine. I'm leaving for work, but there is a quick test that can be explained in detail. |

Re: Early 80's Battery Drain
There is a small green wire that runs from the generator to the center post of the voltage regulator. Remove it from the voltage regulator, and ground it out.
Run the cart while up on jacks. Use a meter to watch the voltage across the battery posts. As RPM increases, the voltage should increase too. Way up around 18-19 volts. If it does, that is a bad regulator. If it doesn't check the brushes in the generator. |

Here's pictures of the entire cart. I don't have any of the motor right now.

Re: Early 80's Battery Drain
I see in the pic the body tag is still there but a bit covered up by a speaker or something, If you can get a pic of it or tell us what it says we should be able to get the year....
I'm guessing mid eighties give or take a year or two, Seeing how the front windshield/roof struts mount I'd say 85 and older. In 86 they began mounting them on the side rather than the top of the hood, But that's obviously not a stock roof so need to see that tag |
