Default G16A wont start with voltage regulator plugged in

I have 1999 G16A that is giving me trouble.

The cart will only start with the voltage regulator unplugged or the wire harness (green and Red w/white wires) that connects the voltage regulator to the starter generator unplugged.
I have spark and fuel and the compression is 150.

I have changed out the following parts in this order recently:

Ignitor
Spark Plug
Fuel Pump
Fuel Lines
voltage regulator
starter

Also I have gone through the grounding spots to make sure that they were ok.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Are the ignitor and voltage regulator factory Yamaha? If not, that could be your issue. I have had bad luck with China imitation electronic parts shorting out. Very poor quality.

Agreed, in general; Yamaha + aftermarket parts = bad combination. Yamaha's are like Toyota's... they don't play nice with aftermarket parts. carb, electronic parts, piston, rings... none of them work very well or for very long. You may be able to get away with an aftermarket fuel pump but I don't think I would trust anything else.

chinese voltage regulators in particular are very, very common to be bad and/or dead shorted right out of the box.

is the starter/generator an aftermarket as well? Don't throw out the OEM Hitachi one you removed, get a set of brushes if they're worn I am sure it's probably fine. The aftermarket one will likely eat itself internally in a month or so. Especially if it is Dynamo or DB Electrical.

My recommendation before buying any more parts, if all the parts you installed are aftermarket parts, then put all of the old OEM parts back on. Clean the OEM carb really well and let us know what is going on, let's start over from square 1. Trying to diagnose a motor with a bunch of cheap chinese parts installed is generally going to be much more difficult than just trying to troubleshoot an otherwise pretty basic problem...

Double check your work. One of the brushes braided cables is probably grounded out.

Or when you removed the cables off the starter/generator it spun the stud, and the wire itself on one of those may be grounded out to the case.

Pull it back out and check continuity between everything and the case of the starter/generator
