1988 2pg muffler
would the correct muffler be any quieter? I have a cobbled-together exhaust, its very loud, “dirt bike” loud. looked it up and the ‘88 seems to have a muffler specific to that year, and its 200 bucks. would it be a bad idea to run without a muffler? the one thats on it seems like it could be restrictive. has the normal inlet, 1 inch or whatever size the exhaust port is but the outlet tube from the canister is maybe 3/8”. seems like a drastic difference.

These 2 strokes rely on back pressure to run correctly. No muffler is a bad idea. I would bite the bullet and get the correct one.

I have the 88 for 25 years now the original is high $ as you say I have found a 1987 muff for less than half but not sure it will perform
