Melted Yamaha G9 Gas Cap
Long Time reader, first time poster... this forum has helped me keep
My cart running! Bought a new gas cap last season for my G9 (Amazon), after running it for a few months not that often, but for long rides, I go to fill up the tank and the bottom of the gas cap is elongated and melted... it does run somewhat hot, but now I’m hesitant to drive it until it’s fixed. I’m going to remove the plastic shroud and clean the motor, should I also replace the gas tank vent? Has anyone seen anything like this before? Could it be bad gas (I only put in premium), need another oil change, a reaction between the gas and plastic? I’m stumped. Thanks! |

Re: Melted Yamaha G9 Gas Cap
Premium is a waste, unless it's non-ethanol. The tank vent should be good because it runs. Unless the oil level is low, it's not a problem.
If it runs hot enough to melt plastic, that's a problem. Definitely remove all the shrouding and clean the debris. If hasn't ever been done, there could be a ton of crap inside. Post a pic of the cap. |

Maybe a cheap aftermarket cap?

Re: Melted Yamaha G9 Gas Cap
If you have a digital thermometer take a reading of what temps you are getting there. I'm wondering if the exhaust might be plugged up?
