Clutch won’t engage
Hello, I have 2 Yamaha G9 golf carts. One stopped working a few months ago. I replaced the relay because it was not getting enough juice to the starter generator. It turns over now but the engine will not fired up. I checked the spark plug and it has sparks but weak. I spray starter fluid into the carburetor but it will not fire up. Is it the coil, spark plug or something else? Thanks.
Now, golf cart #2 stop working today. The engine runs, fired up but the clutch will not engage. The sliding sheave will not move toward the engine like it used to. I took the cover off and everything looks good, no broken parts. I sprayed WD40 on the flyweights but no luck. Do I need to replace the entire clutch or is there something else I can try before replacing it? Thank you. |

Re: Clutch won’t engage
When you say "fires up and runs", does it accelerate - race up above idle speed? The clutch won't close on the belt till the engine spins beyond a certain speed. Often it's the engine just turning by way of the starter - not running, or not running well enough to spin fast enough to close the clutch.

Yes, the gas engine is running. I revved up the engine but no luck.

Re: Clutch won’t engage
Cart #1: check all: spark, air, fuel, compression
*If no spark, check all wiring for shorts, cuts, loose wires etc. *Check ignition coil Cart #2: sounds like the clutches need work *remove and disassemble and inspect *replace worn/broken parts *replace clutches if totally worn out Post pics |
