Default 1987 Marathon bogging down/rich exhaust

Hello,

I have read through several threads in regards to this issue, however it never seems to be addressed. I have a 1987 EZGO Marathon and it runs ok when you first start it. Then after a couple of minutes it starts to bog down. You can get it moving again if you pull the choke, but it never clears up. You have to constantly work the choke to keep it running. It also has a very strong exhaust odor, like unburned fuel. I am running 128:1 mixture. I have replaced carb and fuel pump. What am I missing. Running without the muffler still produces the same results. Any help would be appreciated!

Update: I jacked it up to run it and see what it would do, and there is an overwhelming smell of gas from the exhaust. Right before it dies, Fuel runs out of the float bowl overflow orifice. So, I think it is getting adequate fuel. Could this be the reed valves? Float issue??

Do a compression test.

Sounds like the float is sticking. Fuel should not be flowing out of the carb/overflow. The float is supposed to stop the fuel flow when the bowl is full.

Take the carb off and clean it really good. Set the float to factory specs.
