Default 2013 G29 ydra gas no reverse(team transaxle)

I have a Yamaha ydra gas fleet car that drives fine in forward, shifts to neutral fine but when shifted to reverse seems to stay in neutral. The cables seem to move fine and the splined shaft on the transaxle that the cables attach to seems To moves what appears to be the correct amount but no reverse. I removed the piece the cables attatch to and manually moved the shaft and seems to have full travel but still no reverse. I assume I’ll have to pull the transaxle and separate the case and check the internal shifting mechanism and the gears etc. Any help or information will be greatly appreciated!

Yep you did the right thing by disconnecting the shifter cables. If the lever moves freely and fully into reverse manually, and you have no reverse....you likely have an issue inside the trans. Might be a gear. Might be the shift fork. I'm not really familiar with that trans, so I don't know how it's setup inside. Usually in a trans there is a shift fork that moves the input gear on the input shaft to switch gears. Often that fork can break, or the reverse gear can break or even shear teeth. It's common because sometimes kids or aggressive drivers can jam the thing into reverse before it comes to a stop. Happens all the time on 4 wheelers.

The "how it works" is the same as the older & newer axles. A clutch dog with a fork that slides back & forth to hit the gear you want.

The shift rod sticking out of the trans should have a noticeable "click" then it's all the way in gear, theres a spring-loaded detent ball that wants to hold it fully into the selected gear.

Thanks for the advise. I’ll go that route next. I figured that’s what I’d have to do.
