Default Piece found in 2007 G29 engine

Found this inside the crank case when I took it off to change the gasket. Any idea what it is? How screwed am I?

Looks like the oil splasher (slinger). Not sure the exact term. It should be attached to the rod cap on the piston rod. Looks like it broke off.

Definitely important for oil splash lubrication of the engine.

Ok, I see that now. Looks like it’s a part that can be replaced, but wondering how difficult that is? More importantly, how might it have been broken in the first place?

You will need to replace the connecting rod itself which this is part of the lower rod cap. I would look very closely what impacted the splash fin and what else is damaged.
