Yamaha
New here and been reading through everything but can't find answer. I bought a 4 stroke Yamaha cart that had engine removed and took apart , somebody ran low on oil so scored crank and cyl and other parts missing but my question is how do you raise seat to look for model no? The seat base will wiggle and I found the hinges at floor board ,but there seems to be a latch but I can't find the magic button. If anybody can help me , I'll find model and probably be looking for a good or reman engine. Thanks for any help I never shot any golf before but maybe be able to get this going.

Re: Yamaha
You have a G2 or G9, and the lever is next to the gas cap, under the gas door.
Serial number will be in between the seat base hinges when you open seat up, on a riveted aluminum tag. SN starting with "J38" is a G2, starting with "JG5" is G9. Also, white steering wheel & column is G2, black steering wheel & column is G9 on your cart type. I know you say you never shot one before, but shooting the cart may not help you to get it going.... |

Re: Yamaha
G2 & G9 motors are identical for your purposes. Both were a 285cc motor (as indicated on the block just below where the exhaust pipe would exit). Watch out for the "mostly identical" G14 motor, it looks the same, but some electrical features are not the same. (G14 was a "2 year only" model using a "same looking motor", and you arent too likely to encounter that one, just advising). I'm gonna add a link about motor swaps that's very "in depth", and has a little more info than you might need, but since your gonna learn about this, good info just the same.

Re: Yamaha
I think the latch is under the cover where you put in the gas.

Re: Yamaha
Hey Dive, quick question for you.
I know you said the engine has been pulled, is the factory air box and other parts still there such as starter/generator, solenoid etc.? Try posting up some pictures if you can. |
