Rebuilding EH29C
Hello All, I'm new to the site and to the golf cart engine world. I've never rebuilt an engine but work on mechanical stuff all the time. I've got an Robin EH29C engine that I'm trying to rebuild over the winter. I removed old pistons and installed new ones with rings but now I can hardly turn the crank. I also made the mistake of not paying attention to the alignment of the other gear or rod that's beside the crank. (I don't know the correct name for that one.) I've been looking for manuals or some type of info or help on why the crank is so hard to turn now and the alignment of the other gear. Thanks in advance for any help any one can give.

Re: Rebuilding EH29C
what you speak of next to the crank is the balancing shaft. See attached for the engine manual.
Robbin engine manual.pdf Hard to turn is relative. Bolt the clutch on, and see if it is still hard to turn, or turn it using the fan. Pull the plugs out? If you are rebuilding because you threw a rod, it is likely the bearing surface on the crank has a build up of aluminum from the old rod on it, and it will not turn smoothly. It is often cleanable though. |

Re: Rebuilding EH29C
Engines can be hard to turn by hand when the plugs are installed, without the plugs the engine should spin over easily without much drag. A fresh rebuild can be a little stiffer, but not much. If you over tightened the connecting rod bolts it could feel too tight. What did you torque those to?
Just pointing something out, don't think I'm being over critical here.... If you don't know what a balancer is, I'm not so sure you should be rebuilding an engine. At the very least, read over that manual really well before you go any further. I wouldn't want you to ruin your new parts. |
