Keep us updated on your outcome with the batteries.
Has this question EVER ended up with the poster doing the right thing?

Ronnie-"A MAN CONVINCED AGAINST HIS WILL IS OF THE SAME OPINION STILL".

Hook those 12v up as 3 or 6 or whatever. Please add to your travel kit a good dry chem fire extinguisher and warn your passengers about wearing air masks. Good luck.

Someone please tell me where the danger is if the batteries are wired per the posted schematic.

Regarding to the batteries comanche has, there's dangers related with the discharge rate needed for traction of the particular AGM's he has. Not to mention the charging issues. At certain running point those batteries can be really hot.
There's no problem of wiring truly deep cycle Flooded acid-lead batteries 12v on that way other than a lower AH traduced in less run time. Not problem either with his batteries other than stated above. (I think he does not want to risk his life)

There's AGM batteries many different types, not only deep cycle, probably you know more the RV's AGM which carry higher cranking amperage combined with deep cycle, those can probably hold higher amperage charge, not a truly AGM deep cycle.
