Default Battery Gases, Corrosive?

I am charging the new cart next to my Harley Davidson. I know when I lift the seat on the cart when it is charging I can smell a lite oder of battery. Is this a concern in my garage? Does it have a corrosive effect that I should be concerned about?

charging lead acid batteries produce hydrogen gas & oxygen. highly explosive in the right conditions (ie: Hindenburg). if you are going to charge indoors, you should have some sort of ventilation in that room.

what you are smelling is the sulphuric acid. the small amounts being vented aren't really an issue with proper ventalation, but if the electrolyte is boiling out of the caps and onto your frame and garage floor, you should neutralize it and clean it up.

Your concern about corrosive vapors are valid. That is what corrodes everything under the seat. Maybe park the bike somewhere else....

Scotty,
1: Does your 13 pc/4g wire set for CC include everything I'll need for my '07 precedent? Also, will the new wire fit through the OBC? I keep hearing chatter about that being a problem.

2: I want to get more torque, will 4g wires make any difference. I also plan on a controller upgrade, after the wires.

Thanks,
Steve
