I may try this first since I already bought the reducer. I don't know if it will work because my reducer must have capacitors already in it. The radio will play about 15-20 seconds after I shut off power to the reducer. I have my memory wire running to number 4 battery. Will low voltage on the memory wire cause the radio to cut out?

hmm...

the wire to the #4 batt could very well be your problem! all of the radios i've ever installed used the "memory" as the main supply for unit. the switched wire just told the deck when to power on/off. try tying both +12V wires to the regulator output and see if that doesn't clear things up.
