Won't Start or run in reverse 89 Marathon

Replaced all 8 contacts, both microswitches. Tried jumping the microswitch as instructed. Back up alarm does come on, yet not even a hint it will start. Starts instantly in forward and runs great for itz age. Son a bit tired of pushing us out of trouble. Any suggestions on this 89 2 stroke? Some one said to jump solenoid, yet will wait another opininion on that, or even how to. Thanks i advance all.

If it starts in one direction yet not the other I doubt the solenoid is at fault, more likely somethings wrong with the F/R switch or the cables going to the start/gen.

Fantastic information to keep thanks Ruredy. Took switch apart. Every so slight burr on grove for reverse. Guy I bought this from said he used screwdriver to get reverse to work at times...think he meant sledge.

Would this be the same for the '83 Marathon solenoid. I am rewiring mine and am confused. From the wiring diagram for th '83, as well as this, my solenoid would be wired wrong. But it is running. the way mine is wired is, all the wires that go to "d" in this diagram, are hooked up to "c" on mine. and "d" on mine is just grounded to the frame. HELP! it wasn't charging, so i had the s/g rebuilt. They did say that it wasn't charging at all. But i still want to get this wired rignt.

not sure if the diagrams the same (I don't think so)but... I'm trying to think of a reason you would run a wire from the frame to a solenoid post.

I'm drawing a blank on the one......
seems like a conflict and the wire should just burn up.

Here is the wiring diagram I am using. Any Idea on how i would read the solenoid. I beleive my big posts are correct. But I am lost on how to identify the small posts. Thanks!

That solenoid looks like any electric cart single solenoid. The 2 small posts being the activation circuit to switch the 2 big terminals on/off? If that is the case it will use a neutral on one sm terminal and a positive (switched or momentary?) on the other for activation.. I dunno ???

What do you mean by a "neutral." Sorry...electircal never was my strong point.
