Default 97 TXT - No "oompf" going up hill

Just received a 1997 EZGO TXT. It cruises along just fine on flat surfaces, but uphill is painful. Is there anyway to add some speed to this little guy?

(I've read for 2000 and above you can change out the chip, this isn't possible on the 97)

Thanks!

Could you identify the drive system?
