Cart problems
Hi! I purchased a home that included a golf cart, but I don't know exactly what I have. It is clearly an EZGO, but it seems to be missing the identification plate. There is one sticker on the cart that says "REMFG 01/2008 ST BASE". Another label says EZGO TEXTRON 27647-G01. It is electric, 36V, with 6 batteries. There are a couple issues. First, it has lights, but they do not come on. I am unsure how to troubleshoot. Next problem, the cart is slooooow. But every now and then, its fast! When it is fast, it lasts until the next time I turn it off and on. But most times it is slow. What does this imply? Wiring problems? Weak batteries? This cart lives by the ocean, so corrosion is a problem. The wheels are rusting, and the parking brake plate was badly rusted. I replaced it and the brake works again. Thanks for any advice!

Re: Cart problems
Looks like it's an 01 model that was remanufactured in 2008. It would be a 2001 EZGO TXT. First thing I would do if you have not, is get new batteries and replace all the old cables with 2 gauge. It could fix the cart moving slow problem. It could also be many other things causing that issue..such as the controller, speed sensor..etc. we'll have to narrow it down. First things first, replace batteries and cables and go from there. The lights could either have burnt out bulbs, or simply not wired up, or a bad connection..that's all it could be. As far as rust, inspect battery tray and frame for rust. These carts are known to have the frame rust out and can break on you. Had one break on me while driving and the battery tray fell out. Wouldn't hurt to sand the rust off of the frame/battery tray, clean, and coat with POR-15 to prevent anymore rust. Good news is you can replace rusted battery trays. Rusted frames are more tricky but can be reinforced with more metal if needed. Post pics and post pics of the wiring so we can see more and give a better answer.
