Default How to remove Input Gear???

I have an electric marathon from 81 and I have the rear end open but cannot figure out how to remove the input shaft. I have the gears out, axles out, and motor off. It wont budge and I don't see any c clips holding it in. It is the "worm" type input gear just like on a gas marathon of the same time period. Any ideas?!

From the front. It is perpendicular to the axle.

wow, I wonder how one would get that nut loose when the gears/axles are already out? It seems that the time to loosen that was when tires were still on the ground. Anyone have an idea how to do?

Getting that nut off with the gears out will be a trick.

I as thinking that too...other issue is how to get socket down on the nut. It sits too low in the housing to get at it with a wrench and the input shaft from the motor is too long for any deep socket. Might be an excuse to go buy one of the "through" socket sets.
