Battery post problems

I was going to take off bolt to battery 1 and the bolt will loosen to a certain point and then can't get it to go past that point to get it off.

Afraid I am going to break the post if applying too much force.

Does this sound like the post is already bent?

Being a first time golf cart owner...seems like everything is a struggle to do what seems like basic maintenance.

Any help on what I should do at this point would be much appreciated.

What type of terminal do you have? Do you have this type of terminal that has a threaded bolt which comes up from the battery?

Or do you have this type of terminal that is more like a "standard" vehicle battery post?

Inquiring minds need to know!!! Also, brand of battery may be helpful.

It is the first one... Threaded bolt that comes up from the battery.

Is the post spinning with the nut? Or is the nut binding on the post?

Use a hacksaw to cut off above the nut....go slow

I've had this happen several times. Not really sure why on any of them. As EPB said, use a hacksaw to cut the stud. You don't want to throw sparks. Either at the highest point you can get the nut or, below the nut. I've changed the ones I've messed up to marine terminals.

Thanks for the replies...i will say it helps having people online willing to give input and help to a newbie. I think I was almost ready to give up trying to DIY this cart today.

So after putting some terminal spray and then putting some oil on the post...I was able to work the nut off the post. The post never did spin so I am guessing that is a good thing. I am thinking the post and nut just had a lot of corrosion...

I then went to the hardware store and purchased all new nuts for all the post.

The previous owner had the wire from the charging terminal and the wire from the state of charge meter connected to this post without terminal rings. Also found these wires were twisted around the post first and then the large large gauge battery wire was last on the post.

From what I read here...i put the large guage battery wire ring terminal first on the post then the other two wires. Also added terminal rings to the wires that had none. This seems make things cleaner with the terminal rings and hopefully create a tighter cleaner connection. I also scrubbed the post with a wire brush trying to get things cleaned up.

Hope my efforts make for a better running cart.

I should be getting all new 2 gauge battery cables this week and will start the switch out of the existing cables. I think this cart I purchased needs some basic maintenance.

Again, appreciate all the replies and the ones in the future.

It's nice at the end of the day your cart is back on the charger and not in pieces.

Skip, I post piles of questions here. I've always found that there is no such thing as a stupid question. I consider myself a novice at best and always look to these guys for advice and guidance. This forum is a great resource. Use it and again....no stupid questions are ever ask here.
