2006 EZGO txt rearend issue
Just bought a 2006 TXT and having an issue with the rearend. The guy I bought it from replaced the driver's side hub and brakes. When I got it home I noticed a lot of heat and brake smell. I checked the wheel and the lug nuts and castle nut were not real tight. I adjusted the shoes in and tightened everything. Then there was a thumping sound from the rear. Now about every third revolution of the wheel it sticks and the wheel barely turns. Does that sound like the gears are binding in the rearend? Can't believe I bought this cart and I'm having issues already.

Re: 2006 EZGO txt rearend issue
Is the cart lifted?
If so, the driver side brake cable may be too short. OR it could be the brake cables weren't adjusted properly after the PO worked on them. You can download the Owner, the Service and the Parts manuls for your cart here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...g-manuals.html They are the top three PDF files. |

Re: 2006 EZGO txt rearend issue
I think I have narrowed it down to a bad hub. I tore it apart this weekend and cleaned it good and the teeth are worn on the inside of the hub. Going to buy a new one today and see if that fixes it. I assume when the PO didn't tighten the castlenut it wore the teeth off on one side. I hope that is all that is wrong anyway.

Re: 2006 EZGO txt rearend issue
You are most likely correct about the castle nut being too loose and taking out the hub splines.
Specs for rear axle are 70ft/lb minimum and 140ft/lb maximum. Always tighten castle nut to get the cotter pin hole in axle to line up. Specs for front axles are different, consult service manual for front axle tightening procedure. |

Re: 2006 EZGO txt rearend issue
Well I replaced the hub and still having an issue. I think I have narrowed it down to the bearing. I assume the heat from the brakes burned up the bearing so I have one ordered. To remove the axle to get the bearing off, do I drop the diff cover to get to the c clip?

Re: 2006 EZGO txt rearend issue
Well got the bearing replaced yesterday and that was the issue. The bearing had come apart so it was quite the adventure. Used a dremel tool to cut the bearing race out and it went back together very easy.
