cart runs with key off
I have a 1983 36 volt club car. It takes off and runs full throttle with the key off without pressing th accelerator when the the forward/reverse lever is engaged. the forward/reverse switch starts to smoke on the inside and the coils behind the first solenoid facing the rear of the cart starts to glow red hot, I had to disengage the forward/reverse switch from the battery to stop the burning. i replaced the switch and the problem is the same. Help!

Re: cart runs with key off
You have 2 solenoids stuck, one having to be the master solenoid. OR you could have 2 micro switches stuck closed (rare) OR I have seen the plastic slider so worn it activates the micros. With a little investigation you should be able to figure out which one it is.

Re: cart runs with key off
OK so how do I check the solenoids and which would be the master and where and what is the slider and how do I check that?

Re: cart runs with key off
I tapped the two solenoids below the coil that was getting red hot and that solved the problem. I'm dgoing to buy two solenoidsand replace them one at a time the outermost first unless you can give me some advice. Thanks very much. its a major ordeal for me to transport the cart for repairs and the cart is a necessity for us.

Re: cart runs with key off
Now I'm looking at the diagram you forwarded and I see it must be the full speed solenoid that must be getting stuck because the cart was taking off at full speed on its own....especially when I crashed into my neighbors car. Thanks again.

Re: cart runs with key off
Always change the first solenoid, the one with no resistor on it, because if that one goes sour, youll be dead in the water, so new solenoid there is always a plus. Same goes when replacing micro switches on that vintage car
