Re: Replacing Motor - Quick Question
So, getting ready to actually replace the motor.
It's a Marathon chassis, but a Western body, and there is no access from the top. The old motor is heavy, and the new one is much larger. The cart is on jack stands, supporting the chassis, not the axles. Was thinking of removing the back bolts on the rear leafs, and pivoting the whole thing down. Anyone have a suggestion/trick that will make it easier to replace? |

Re: Replacing Motor - Quick Question
Goliath, This is something I have done numerous times and worked well for me when dropping the motor out from the bottom, and it best done with 2 people.
1. Put the cart up on jack stands on all four corners to give better access. 2. Label then disconnect all of the cables. 3. Lightly loosen all 3 motor bolts to ensure none of them are bound/stuck. Leave the one at the top in, but unthread it a few turns and remove the other two. 4. Using a floor jack with a large "shoe" (typically 7" works best), place the shoe underneath the motor and apply just enough pressure to hold the weight of the motor. You should know when its enough when you will be able to "wiggle the motor. 5. Remove the TOP bolt, remember, the motor has a "boss fit" that's about a 1/4", now wiggle/rock the motor while prying force (once you can get it started, you can use a small screw driver to gently pry the two apart). ITS HEAVY, maintain ahold if the motor so it would drop on you or the floor. 6. Once you got the motor loose, lower down to the floor and OUT. Install in the REVERSE of they above steps. |

Re: Replacing Motor - Quick Question
Yes you can, remove the back bolts on the rear leafs, and pivoting the whole thing down. That would give you more room. You will have to remove the two bottom shock mount bolts to. And use two wrenches on the motor bolt. Make sure the studs on the cables DO NOT TURN, or you will be getting a new motor

Re: Replacing Motor - Quick Question
Thanks.
I'm not sure I can get a floor jack to raise all the way up to the motor, as it's pretty high up with the whole vehicle on jack stands. I may do a combination: remove the rear leaf bolts, pivot the whole axle down, then use a floor jack, so THANKS! |
