Can read individual voltages, but not pack?
Good afternoon all,
I was reading my individual battery charges after a charge the other day, and I can get individual voltages, and even 4 or 5 batteries in series (31.xx V if I remember correctly, sounds about right...), but when I try to take a voltage from battery 1 to battery 6, my multimeter just reads 0 V. Very strange. I cleaned all the contact cables by taking them off, polishing with a wire brush and reconnecting, and I've ordered new connecting cables but they haven't arrived yet. I dont' have numbers handy for the individual battery voltages, but they weren't terrible, one might have been a little low so I'll see if I can charge that one seperately. However, I don't think that would cause my inability to read the pack voltage. Any idea what this could be attributed to? I'm a n00b to the cart world, but I know how to use a multimeter.....I wouldnt' think it would be user error, but I guess you never know. Makes me feel kinda silly asking this question but still... 2005 EZ-GO PDS, Exide batteries, 36V, stock. Thanks guys! |

I don't know about your meter but mine gives an error if you have it set on 36.xx, try setting it to one decimal place 36.x.
I don't think mine can display that many numbers is why it zeros out on pack voltage. |

Re: Can read individual voltages, but not pack?
If it's a DVM you need to go to the next higher scale. Not sure what meter you have but on mine (Harbor Freight cheapie) I use the 20 volt scale for individual battery readings and the 200 volt scale for reading the whole pack. Hope this helps. RAY

Re: Can read individual voltages, but not pack?
Thanks for the thoughts, guys. I thought of the "out of range" issue, and I have a decent Craftsman DVM, and if I remember correctly I have it set on the highest voltage.....it's at least several hundred, IIRC. I'll check again when I get home but that was my first thought, too.
