Default state of charge meter?????

Newbie here just wondering if the state of charge light stays on even if the key is turned off. The person that I bought it from rewired it to a switch so he could turn it off when not in use. The problem that I've found that it gives you a false reading when you first turn it on( that it is fully charged, which in fact it wasn't and I found out on the 2 hole).

All the factory state o charge meters I have seen turn off with the key
switch. You might try finding the wiring diagram for your cart in the
sticky section and review.

Yeah I found a wiring diagram wired it like it showed (the wht/yel wire from the ignition switch to the #4 post on the meter) but the light still stays on. I have by passed the meter with a switch for now.

These meters draw very very little power ... under normal circumstances it is a negligable amount of draw. So if you are having trouble switching it just run it straight.
